Ann Robertson – Artist and Illustrator

I have been messing about with Lino, trying to find some inspiration. On my hols last year in La Gomera I got a bit obsessed by shadows on the walls and thought I might be able to do something with them. A couple of months ago decided I had better start something even if it went nowhere, so I started these.

They are 8 inch square Lino blocks and the idea is to cut 8, two for each image, one over the other. I do not generally do reduction Lino as there is too much jeopardy and I will accept a little randomness.

I have done the first two and possibly the second two. The drafts here are mostly in black ink, but I will mess about with greens and blues I think later on.

Turns out I really like them and they are now an ongoing project!

This is the first one for this image set. I have taken out more background and like it a lot. it works as a stand alone image. I then tried it on paper that had watercolour on. It was a bit I had in my drawer and not right for Lino ring but gives and idea of how it might work.

I think if properly planned this would work well.

This is the second Lino.

And this is the overlay. It was done when they both had too much Lino left uncleared and I need to retry it. It is far too confused as it stands.
