Butterflies – Upcycling to greeting cards

May 25, 2019 | Curiosities, Inspiration, Nature, paper cut, Sewing | 0 comments

I have been doing some stock taking recently, partly for a print fair and partly to sort out what I have. There are a number of things I was pleased with at the time I completed them, but now are in need of a remake.

One of these is my butterfly banner. Although the banner does not work, and is just collecting dust, the actual paper and material butterflies are rather nice.

Why not upcycle them? Butterflies duly removed and upcycled …

The paper cut butterflies have made interesting greeting cards on Kraft paper, with colour added behind for the wings.

I used fabric stiffener on the butterflies that are machine embroidered and, as they look best with the light coming through them, I have upcycled them into window decorations.

So now I hope my upcycling will give them a new lease of life!
