52Frames Break the Rules! Week 51

Break the Rules! is the challenge for this week, set by 52Frames. I am going away in a couple of days and then its Christmas so I wanted something that didn’t seem too involved. I decided I would try and create an image from a photograph trying to make it look like a drawing. I thought it would break rules from both sides. For my rules I wanted to do new things and use new media in my book, and this is using a photograph. From the photo point of view it is processing it to an extreme.

I thought I could just put filters on the image, but discovered that was not the case. I googled it and used one of the tutorials I found on line. I started with a photo of a very interesting tree, but I could only make it look like an odd black and white photograph/drawing cross.

I took another picture of some dried flowers which is much simpler. I then worked through the tutorial. It looks a bit like a pencil drawing, but not completely. I then put a bit of colour on and floated a homemade paper background on it.

I think the final image looks a bit like a 50’s or 60’s illustration, so not altogether a failure.

Onward to xmas and one more image to do!
