I have also been reading some of my mums old books illustrated by Arthur Rackham. The limited colour palette is very effective and many of his images have large empty spaces. So those thoughts were in my mind too.

I think the leaf reflections are so lovely I stripped out other background elements. The ouline of the image was done with a nib pen, and then I managed to lay a really good wash.

I left it to dry properly!! and then painted the leaves.

While painting the leaves I smudged the wash with a wet finger. It is very annoying as the wash was so good, but getting better each time. Wonder if I will get a perfect one?
