Food is the challenge this week for 52Frames. My friend suggested trying Pointillism. It is a technique I had never tried before so thought it would be good for this weeks picture. I had a look at a couple of tutorials on line which were helpful.
I put in a light background for some of the image and then worked on top. I decided to use brush pens for several reasons. The colours are bold and difficult to tone down so it would hopefully be a striking picture. There was no chance to mix colours, saving time and making me commit to creating the image from the 12 colours in the box. The dots were very small which although a bit time consuming worked well on the small format. In the end I found I did need to use a white watercolour pen as well, especially to tone down the background.
I had bought this beautiful pumpkin just the week before so that was ideal and I added the two chillies for contrast, and because I use them often when cooking pumpkin.
It is quite a fun image and I am pretty pleased, both with having tried a technique for the first time and with the final result.
Love it
