The challenge this week on 52Frames is Black and White. I really enjoy working in black and white, but this is usually black ink on white paper. So far I have enjoyed doing things I would not usually do, so decided to work in white on black paper. I considered various items, feathers, shells etc. I was making a drink for facetime last weekend using one of my grandmother’s lovely glasses. There are only two remaining but I think they are really beautiful. I decided I would try to capture one of these. Still life is not usually my thing and I find getting the curves to look right really tricky.
This drawing is not 100% right but I am fairly pleased with it. It does look like a glass. Working on black paper is difficult as it is very hard to erase a line if it is wrong.
I used Derwent coloursoft pencils and they are not easy to get to a really sharp point, but I love the way the crayon lays down on the paper.
